Pondering the Present vis-à-vis Reflecting on the Past: A Conversation with Liu Ding on Research-based Curating
Volume 16, Number 4, July/August 2017
by Yang Tiange
Article Description
Yang Tiange's conversation with Liu Ding focuses on the incorporation of archival material as an exhibition language, taking the exhibition Salon, Salon: Fine Art Practices from 1972 to 1982 in Profile—A Beijing Perspective as an example. The exhibition, co-curated by Liu Ding and Carol Yinghua Lu at Beijing’s Inside-out Art Museum, unfolds a panorama of Beijing’s art scene during the decade from the late Cultural Revolution to the beginning of the Reform and Opening-up, a period that is significant and yet for the curators has been under-explored.
