Elena Macrì

Elena Macrì is an independent scholar based in Italy. She received her M.A. in Chinese Studies and Ph.D. in Chinese Art History from the University of Naples “L’Orientale,” specializing in Chinese modern and contemporary art. During her career, she has also studied and conducted research in China, at the China Academy of Art and the Nanjing University of the Arts. Macrì’s research interests focus on Chinese ink painting theory and practice. Her dissertation and published articles focus on the evolution of landscape painting and explore the perception and depiction of landscape in modern and contemporary Chinese art. She has lectured extensively at the University of Naples “L’Orientale,” and now she regularly attends conferences, seminars, and talks, giving lectures and papers at different academic and cultural institutions. In 2014, she co-curated Zhang Yanzi’s solo exhibition The Remedy, which focused on ink painting. She is currently working on projects that promote the particular aesthetics of Chinese ink art.
