1Gu Ling
Gu Ling is a writer, translator, and editor who lives and works in Shanghai and Shenzhen. Her articles have been published in Ran Dian, Art Review, Art Review Asia, The Art Newspaper, The Art Newspaper China, Flash Art, Art Forum CN, LEAP, Art World, and Art China. Her trans- lations include Curatorial Challenges—Correspondence Between Hou Hanru and Hans Ulrich Obrist, and she was co-translator of the K11 catalogue Yan Lei: What I Like to Do and Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and Money. She was commissioned by the Van Abbemuseum as Managing Editor of their publication Li Mu: A Man, A Village, A Museum. In 2017 she was an invited guest editor of Art World magazine. Her theme Semantic Satiation attempt- ed to demonstrate and problematize the significance of written texts in relation to visual art and to explore the transformations that written texts have undergone because of this relationship. In addition to her writing, Gu Ling has held several positions at various Chinese art institutions, including Rockbund Art Museum, Ran Dian, and British Council. In 2015, she was appointed Head of Communications for Design Society—an innovative cultural hub co-founded by China Merchants Group and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
