John McDonald

John McDonald is an art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald, where he has worked intermittently since 1983. He is also a film critic for the Australian Financial Review. and a former Head of Australian Art at the National Gallery of Australia. His most important publication is The Art of Australia: Exploration to Federation (Macmillan, 2009). Over the past decade he has written extensively on Chinese art, including a long essay for The Big Bang, the first catalogue of the White Rabbit Gallery.
