Lingling Amy Yao is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her dissertation studies the visual arts by contemporary Chinese women, acknowledging its subversive power and revealing its critical limitations at the same time. Her research interests include representations of women, visual culture, women’s writing, Chinese cinema, gender, and women’s studies.
