Marianne Brouwer is an art historian, independent curator, and art critic living in the Netherlands. She has lectured and published widely, and recently she has researched the histories of avant-garde women artists in non-western countries. Currently she is Curator of sculpture at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. In 1994 she curated the exhibition Heart of Darkness for the museum, interrogating the implicitly ideological position of a typical western art museum and its collections through the work of artists living in exile.
