Monica Dematté
Monica Dematté, Ph.D., is an art historian and curator based in Italy and China. In 1986, she moved to China and studied Chinese art history at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts from 1988 to 1989. She is one of the foremost experts on contemporary Chinese art, not only in the English language but also in Chinese. Dematté’s curatorial experience stretches over a decade and across several continents and includes China, Italy, Pakistan, Switzerland, the United States, and Thailand. She has written widely on Chinese artists, and her essays were included in the Venice Biennale catalogues in 1999 and 2001. Her most recent publication is a Chinese edition of her book titled Art, An Individual Research—My Experience of the Last Twenty Years of Chinese Art, published by Hebei Arts Publishing House.
