Valerie C. Doran
Valerie C. Doran is a Hong Kong-based curator, art critic, and translator specializing in the field of Chinese contemporary art. Her most recent curatorial projects include The Garden of Winter Light, a group exhibition with artists from Hong Kong, the PRC, Taiwan, Tibet, and Mongolia (Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong, 2015–16); and Frog King Totem, Hong Kong performance artist and painter Frog King’s highly acclaimed solo exhibition (10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Hong Kong, 2014). Doran was Editorial Director for two major publications on Chinese contemporary art: China’s New Art, Post-1989 (1993, 2004), which has become an important reference book in the field, and Three Parallel Artworlds: 100 Art Things from Modern Chinese History (2015), named by ArtAsiaPacific as one of the ten outstanding art books of 2015. She is an academic advisor to the Asia Art Archive and a member of the International Art Critics Association and has served as a member of the Gallery Advisory Board of the Asia Society Hong Kong. She is also Curatorial Director of Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong.
