Architectural and Spatial Metaphors:
The Continued Representation of Migration in Contemporary Chinese Art
Volume 19, Number 1, January/February 2020
by Sjoukje van der Meulen
Article Description
Sjoukje van der Meulen brings the discourse of migration into the present with examples of artists who often are part of the migrant communities they are engaged with, and are taking constructive measures in representing them. This differs from an earlier generation of artists whose work often employed migrants in critiquing their working conditions, but whose final product was more a traditional work of art that made little difference to their lives.
