Interview with Hou Hanru

Volume 5, Number 1, March 2006
by Alice Ming Wai Jim

Article Description

Hou Hanru, who has worked in numerous curatorial contexts around the globe, is interviewed by Alice Ming Wai Jim about the Second Guangzhou Triennale which he co- curated with Hans Ulrich Obrist. Located in the Pearl River Delta region of China, where rapid—what he refers to as “post-planning”— urban development is creating a new breed of city, this event has provided Hou with another platform to further develop his innovative ideas which explore the ways art and the public, the local and the glocal can interact in creative ways, and how the museum can model itself to the particularities of its immediate social context.
