Asian Art Council Roundtable 3: The 1955 Bandung Conference—Alternative Postwar Histories
Volume 14, Number 3, May/June 2015
by Geeta Kapur, Erin Supriyanto, Zheng Shengtian, Alexandra Munroe
Article Description
The panel discussion is devoted to the Bandung Conference, which was held in Bandung, Indonesia in 1955 and is related to the Non-Aligned Movement summit
held in Belgrade in 1961. By focusing on the Global South, it challenges the East-West binary that defines the established formation of twentieth century world history and culture. It also uncovers
artistic styles that operated outside the now-canonized schools and narratives of radical art from Asia and Africa of the 1950s and ’60s.
