1Andreas Schmid
Andreas Schmid is an artist, curator, and writer who lives and works in Berlin. During the 1980s, he studied Chinese calligraphy and art history at Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou (now China Academy of Art). Since 1983, Schmid has been working on the public perception of experimental art in China and in Europe. Together with Hans van Dijk and Jochen Noth, he curated the exhibition China Avant-garde, which was presented first at the House of World Cultures in Berlin, in 1993, before it toured to Rotterdam, Oxford, Odense, and Hildesheim. His most recent curatorial project includes The 8 of Paths: Art in Beijing (2014), which opened at Ufehallen, Berlin, and was co-curated with Thomas Eller and Guo Xiaoyan. In addition to his curatorial and artistic practices, he teaches Chinese calligraphy and the contemporary history of ink painting at the HfBK Dresden (Dresden Academy of Fine Arts).
