Jo-Anne Birnie-Danzker
Jo-Anne Birnie-Danzker is a curator and scholar who respectfully acknowledges the unceded territories of the xwməθkwəyəm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil- Waututh) Nations. upon which she lives. She served as Director and CEO of 21st and 22nd Biennale of Sydney and Advisor to 2021 and 2023 Ljubljana Biennial. In 2021–2022, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Philosophy Department of Fudan University, Shanghai, where she conducted a Masterclass on Curatorial Practice. During her tenure as Director of the Vancouver Art Gallery, Museum Villa Stuck Munich, and Frye Art Museum Seattle, Birnie- Danzker served as exhibition director, curator, and co-curator of numerous large-scale exhibitions which toured to institutions such as Martin-Gropius-Bau and Deutsche Guggenheim Berlin; MCA Chicago; ICP, MoMA- PS1, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York and Albertina Vienna. They included Shanghai Modern:1919–1945 and The Short Century.
