Lisa Claypool teaches and curates Chinese art at the University of Alberta. Her publications explore science and imagery, interculturalism and visuality, and exhibitions in modern and contemporary China. She recently completed her first book manuscript, Figuring the Social Body: Painting Manuals in Late Imperial China, and is working on her second, Artifactual Art: Painting and Science in Modern China. She is the author of “Ways of Seeing the Nation: Chinese Painting in the National Essence Journal (1905–1911) and Exhibition Culture,” which was published in the Winter 2011 issue of positions: east asia cultures critiques.
