1Nie Xiaoyi
Nie Xiaoyi is a writer and curator based in Shanghai and an editor at Qilu Criticism. She is currently a 2024-2025 Curatorial Fellow at the De Ying Foundation. From 2022 to 2024, she was the senior editor of ArtReview Asia and LEAP magazine. She earned her Ph.D. from the Royal College of Art, London where she explored the emergence of curating in China and its connections with artistic practices as mobilized in modern China. In 2020, she joined the exhibition history project Three Contested Sites, initiated by Times Museum, Guangzhou, and Times Art Center, Berlin. In 2020, she received the IAAC-UK Emerging Art Writer Fellowship. She has contributed to curatorial programs at OCAT Research Institute, Beijing, Gasworks, London, Royal College of Art, London, and Jimei-Arles Photography Festival, Xiamen. She has presented her research at the Institute of International Visual Arts, London, China Academy of Art, Hangzhou, and Glasgow School of Art. Nie’s art criticism and essays have been widely published in ArtReview China, LEAP, Qilu, and Ming Contemporary Art Museum 2016–2021. Her academic writings have appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art and Education.
