In collaboration with WiE Kultur, Yishu: Journal for the Contemporary Chinese Art will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in Berlin on June 8, 2012. Yishu, inaugurated in 2002, is the first English-language journal to focus on Chinese contemporary art and culture. It will launch its fiftieth issue. A newly finished video interview between Zheng Shengtian and artist Bingyi will also be screened onsite for its premiere. This is part of Yishu’s 10th anniversary project: a documentary film which interviews all the 50 cover-artists of the entire 50 issues.
Mr. Zheng Shengtian, the co-founder and managing editor of Yishu, who is also an artist and a curator, will share his observation about the making of this journal. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Miss Chen Yang (Chaos Y. Chen), the founder and director of WiE Kultur in Berlin.
This event will also be a preview of the landmark ink-painting installation, The Shape of the Wind: In Fuchun Mountains, by Beijing-New York-based artist Bingyi. This 160-meter long action painting with ink on rice paper will be presented to shine in the light inside the St. Johannes-Evangelist Church located on the Art Mile in Berlin-Mitte. The exhibition will open officially on June 12, 18:00 – 21:00, and run though July, 8.
During the exhibition, soloist Cheng Hongyu, a young master of the guqin-zither—an ancient Chinese instrument with more than 3000 years of history—will play two concerts at the church, entitled, A Journey of Soul.
The exhibition and the concert are the official programs of CHINAH: Chinese Cultural Year in Germany 2012, presented by WiE Kultur.
